At any rate, Audio Classics-a class operation, I must say-rebuilt that pot and also tested and rebuilt the bass pot. The reason I returned it was that the treble tone pot got scratchy when I was turning it (I almost never adjust the pots, but was trying to get a better tone balance), and when I tried replacing the adjustment knob after a cleaning with Deoxit, the pot pushed in. A few weeks after that repair, I was getting the same problem, though maybe not quite so pronounced. On that occasion, the loudness function was running all the time, causing really flabby bass. I finally returned it to Audio Classics, who reminded me that it was still under warranty after a repair a couple of months prior to that. A couple of months ago I had a question about my McIntosh 1700 receiver.
